Biography
LANCE TAIT grew up in northern New
York. His plays have been performed or have received
public readings in New York, Boston, Los Angeles, Denver,
Toronto, Paris, the United Kingdom and at the American
Repertory Theatre and Harvard University. He has an
M.A. from Boston University where he studied with Nobel
laureate Derek Walcott. Tait has been a visiting lecturer
in theatre at Leeds University in England. As a singer/songwriter,
he has performed solo in London, England, New York and
Los Angeles. He has presented his poetry in Spain and
Serbia.
In 2002 Tait founded Theatre
Metropole, an English-language theater troupe, in
Paris. Two of his series of works are Theatre Metropole Sketchy Comedies (based in New York) and the Edgar Allan Poe Project. In June 2007 Tait,
as founder, producer and director of Theatre Metropole, signed an agreement with Crackle, an internet
entertainment company owned by Sony Pictures, to present Theatre Metropole New York’s videos on the web. In autumn 2004, staged
readings of Tait’s musical comedy, "Helen
" were presented in Paris, in English at Moving
Parts in Paris, France. In August 2003 T.M. presented "Synesthesia,"
written and directed by Lance Tait, at the New York
International Fringe Festival.
Tait received his B.A. from Bard
College, where he majored in music composition. He earned
a Ph.D. after theater and literature studies, first in
Toronto, and then in Ohio, where he studied with “the
father of Literary Ecology,” Joseph Meeker.
Tait has also worked with Ariane Dubillard
on theater and cabaret shows in French and translates
works by the renowned French playwright Roland Dubillard.
